Enrol a Mac

About five minutes. You'll need macOS 14 Sonoma or later, your enrolment link, and your Mac's login password.

Steps

  1. Open your enrolment link on the Mac

Use the link your admin sent you. The page says Let's set up your device and picks Mac for you, marked This device. If it doesn't, choose Mac under Which device are you setting up?

  2. Download the profile

Under Set up your Mac, choose Download the Wardlark profile.

  3. Open System Settings

Open System Settings, then choose General and Device Management. On macOS 14 Sonoma, choose Privacy & Security, then Profiles.

  4. Install the profile

Double-click the profile (it's called Wardlark for followed by your organisation's name), then choose Install. If macOS asks you to confirm, choose Enroll.

  5. Enter your password. That's it.

Type your Mac's login password when it asks. Your Mac checks in with Wardlark a minute or two later. If your company's policy turns on FileVault, your Mac asks for your password next time you log out or restart. Say yes: it encrypts in the background while you work.

What changes on your Mac

  • You may be asked to set a longer password, and your screen will lock after a few idle minutes.
  • The firewall is switched on.
  • Your admin can see your Mac's model, serial number, macOS version, and whether encryption and the firewall are on.
  • Your admin can't see your files, email, messages, photos or browsing history.
  • If your Mac is lost, your admin can lock it with a 6-digit PIN or erase it.

If something goes wrong

The profile doesn't appear in System Settings. Choose Download the Wardlark profile again, then look in your Downloads folder and double-click the file.

It says the profile is already installed. Your Mac is already enrolled. Nothing more to do.

The page says "Apple devices aren't ready yet". Nothing's wrong with your Mac: your organisation is still setting up Apple devices in Wardlark. Check back later, or let whoever sent you the link know.

The page says "This link doesn't work any more". It may have expired, been switched off or been used up. Ask whoever sent it for a new one.

You removed the profile by mistake. Open your enrolment link again and repeat the steps. Your admin will have been told, so let them know it's sorted.
